Creating music independently today offers more tools and opportunities than ever before. Yet, managing the entire process—from composition to distribution—can feel overwhelming. Over the years, I have developed a "global workflow," which I call THE WHOLEFLOW, to optimize how I create, produce, and share my music. Sharing this approach might help others who want to take control of their music journey.

Planning your music composition

Every project starts with a clear idea. For me, music composition is the foundation. Before opening any software, I sketch out the mood, style, and structure of the piece by ‘putting together’ a set of MUSICAL OBJECTS, the ‘bricks’ I use to build up the final ARTIFACT. These objects, from my point of view, represent a precise creative moment in a temporal evolution and can be used and combined various times in different contexts.

Having a clear plan helps when moving into music production, ensuring the creative vision stays intact.

Setting up your music production environment

Music production today can happen anywhere, from a bedroom to a professional studio. The key is to create a space that inspires and supports your workflow.

  • Choose a digital audio workstation (DAW) that fits your style and budget.

  • Invest in quality headphones or monitors to hear details during mixing and mastering.

  • Organize your plugins and samples for quick access.

  • If you want to explore 3d music or immersive music formats, research compatible tools and formats early.

A well-prepared environment reduces distractions and technical issues, letting you focus on making music.

Mixing and mastering your tracks

Mixing and mastering are crucial steps that shape how your music sounds to listeners. Mixing balances all elements, while mastering prepares the final track for distribution.

  • Start mixing by setting levels and panning to create space between instruments.

  • Use EQ and compression carefully to enhance clarity without over-processing.

  • For immersive music and dolby atmos projects, pay attention to spatial placement and depth.

  • Mastering should focus on loudness, consistency, and compatibility across devices.

Taking time with mixing and mastering improves the listener's experience and increases your music’s impact.

Distributing your music independently

Music distribution has changed dramatically. You no longer need a label to reach global audiences. Platforms like Bandcamp, Spotify, and Apple Music allow independent musicians to share their work widely.

  • Choose a distributor that fits your goals and budget.

  • Prepare your music files according to platform requirements, including metadata and artwork.

  • Build and update a website, use social media and mailing lists to connect with fans and promote releases.

  • Explore new formats like dolby atmos and 3d music to stand out.

Independent distribution puts you in control but requires consistent effort to build and maintain your fanbase.

Integrating the wholeflow for better results

The wholeflow is about connecting every step smoothly. I hope to be able to fully develop the blog as time goes by. The various episodes will be organized with reference to the following topics:

T01: The Creation of Musical Objects

T02: Pre-production (or Artifact Design)

T03: Production and Mixing

T04: Mastering

T05: Delivery

The episodes, which will be listed here with reference to these Topics, will be made available in preview on this site and subsequently on my YouTube Channel.
